Healthy living - A makeover for your Life and Home!

Healthy living starts with paying attention to all of the products you use in your home. Look at the container of any product in your house. What does it have for ingredients and warnings?

healthy living, carcinogens Does the label say:

Caution- ingestion of 2 tablespoons to 2 cups of the ingredient would be poisonous.

Warning- would be 1 teaspoon of the ingredient.

Danger- only a pinch of the product would be deadly.

Do you wonder how things keep for so long? Chemicals are being used to preserve our food, clean our bodies and homes, and to get rid of critters and weeds that we don’t want around us.

We are also breathing toxins in our homes and vehicles. This is not healthy living.

Carcinogens are hundreds of chemicals, substances and exposures that are capable of inducing cancer in humans and animals. On December 7, 2008, CHEMTrust, a British organization that advocates for the protection of humans and wildlife from harmful chemicals released a report on how the species of the male gender is in danger. It is based on 250 studies from around the world.

Several common chemicals that are not conducive to healthy living are found in products that we use:

Phthalates: found in plastic food wraps, cosmetics, flame retardants, and many pesticides are feminizing male fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals-including human beings by environmental pollution. This follows American research that shows women who were exposed to such chemicals in pregnancy have boys with smaller penises and feminized genitals.

The British newspaper, The Independent, reports that living in countries with communities that are heavily polluted with such chemicals, like Canada, Russia and Italy, women have given birth to twice as many girls than boys.

There has been a shift in sex ratios worldwide. It was 106 boys are born for every 100 girls. In the US and Japan alone, it is calculated that 250,000 babies who statistically would have been boys have been born as girls instead. healthy living, carcinogens

Studies in more than 20 countries have shown that the sperm count has dropped from 150 million per milliliter of sperm fluid to 60 million over the last 50 years.

Releasing thousands of dangerous chemicals into our environment is affecting us and our children now and into the future.

Advocacy groups that you can get involved with:

Pesticide Action Network (www.panna.org)

We can avoid products that are made with these chemicals and choose organic, natural foods, clothing and housewares whenever possible.

Cancer is caused by changes (mutations) in a cell’s DNA, its genetic blueprint. We can inherit this from our parents and by outside exposures, also known as environmental factors.

I am not going to list all of them here, but the American Cancer Society has an extensive list from two highly respected agencies- The International Agency for Research on Cancer(IARC) and the US National Toxicology Program (NTP) to keep us informed and educated.

I will talk about some of the common ones that I take seriously and are exposed to everyday.

Non - healthy living environmental factors we are exposed to...

1) Naturally occurring exposures:
*Ultraviolet light
*Radon
*Infectious agents healthy living,carcinogens,cigarettes

2) Lifestyle factors:
*Poor nutrition
*Tobacco use
*Lack of physical activity

Dr. Jon LaPook, medical correspondent for CBS News, announced in a new report, that up to one third of all cancers could be prevented through proper diet, exercise and weight control.

Many Chinese (who were a paragon of healthy living!) have adopted a western lifestyle and diet which has led to a massive increase in the number of people diagnosed with cancer.

3) Medical treatments:
*Chemotherapy
*Radiation
*Immune system-suppressing drugs

4) Workplace and household exposures:
*Pollution
*Home cleaning products and chemicals
*Job related chemicals

Ways Carcinogens leads to Cancer:

1) They can cause cells to divide at a faster than normal rate and change DNA.

2) Substances have different levels of cancer-causing potential:

*Prolonged, high levels of exposure.

*How you are exposed to them.

*The length and intensity of the exposure.

*Genetic makeup.

There has been both extensive lab and population-based studies conducted by scientists that confirm this.

Carcinogens that we come in contact with on a daily basis:

1) The fumes of the metals cadmium, nickel, and chromium – are known to cause lung cancer (Note: they are linking being exposed to Aluminum to Alzheimer’s disease).

2) Vinyl Chloride causes liver sarcomas.

3) Exposure to arsenic increases the risk of skin and lung cancer.

4) Leukemia can result from chemically induced changes in bone marrow from exposure to benzene and cyclophosphamide, among other toxicants.

5) Regular exposure to pesticides in the household (children under the age of 6 had 3.5 times greater risk of leukemia than those not exposed).

6) Chemicals including benzo(a)pyrene and ethylene dibromide. Other toxic agents not good for healthy living you should be aware of:

Aerosols
Alcohol found in mouthwash (can cause mouth and throat cancer)
Sugar in mouthwash (causes more bacteria)
Ammonia
Fluoride (in toothpaste and our water systems)
Formaldehyde
Mineral oil (suffocates your pores, skin can’t breathe)
Talc powder (baby powder contain asbestos)
Arsenide
Deodorants (aluminum)
Heterocyclic amine compounds (formed when food like meats and eggs are cooked at a high temperature; also in cigarette smoke)
Excess sunlight
Drinking alcohol
Artificial sweeteners
Excessive caffeine
Canned food, shelf food

Mold (mycotoxin) found in the food industry
Pest bombs for homes, (termite control, flea collars, insecticides)

Cosmetics, (body, hair, makeup, deodorant, toothpaste)
Lanolin (can have pesticides, such as DDT)
Anti-freeze

Household products
Disinfectants
Carpet shampoo
Air fresheners, candles
Laundry detergents
Dry cleaning (air out your dry cleaning when you bring it home)

Reports have linked neurotoxic chemicals (found in commercial disinfectants) with learning disabilities and ADD. Pesticides and fungicides (with birth defects, hormonal disruption, breast and uterine cancer).

There is massive and excessive use of Industrial chemicals that are polluting us and our world. Wildlife such as frogs, fish, and birds are turning up with huge lesions, sexual abnormalities, mating difficulties, and are dying in record numbers.

Why is it so hard to choose healthy living, is it because of apathy, ignorance or convenience?

Do you think if you make healthy living changes, it will make a difference in air pollution, waste disposal, littering and toxicant poisoning?

I know I do.

Too much of anything is not good.

The nutritional supplements that I take address the health of the cells. Photographic evidence shows how the cell is being broken down and destroyed by toxic chemicals. Nutritional health supplements entering the cell, helps protect it and keep it in a vital state.

There are a lot of old remedies and newly found ones that are helpful, easy and safe to use. I can feel the difference using home remedies and homeopathic remedies, especially with my skin and my lungs.
